BIOGRAPHYCharlie
Savigar is a classically trained musician turned country rock chick.
Although Charlie’s main instrument is the piano she is also a
competent violin player and now adopts the guitar as her preferred
choice of instrument when performing.
Charlie completed a Music degree at City University London in 2003 where she also studied piano at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Her classical background has certainly assisted in her development as a song writer where she is growing from strength to strength. Charlie’s song Long Way Home (from her EP of the same name) debuted in the Hot Disc Country Music charts in January 2011 where it reached number 5 in the UK & Ireland chart. It is also featured on ‘The Best Of British & Irish Country CD 2011’. Charlie has been fortunate to work with many talented and established music professionals. In 1999 she begun working with Status Quo legend Francis Rossi, where he taught her guitar and worked with her on many of her songs. He is featured on her song Save Your Love (Long Way Home EP). Charlie has also worked in the studio with producer and engineer Gregg Jackmann (Seal, Enya Frankie Goes To Hollywood) on a number of recordings. In 2006 Charlie started working with established opera singer Arlene Randazzo (Ex lead soprano for the New York opera house) who has helped Charlie develop her unique and somewhat wacky vocal style. Charlie started performing as a solo artist in 2004 playing many venues in London, Brighton and Guildford. In February 2012 Charlie made her international debut at the legendary Tootsies Orchid Lounge in Nashville. She has collaborated with many musicians since forming her first band in 2008. Her current line up includes talented lead guitarist and vocalist Daren Callow (Air UK, Normal, Stars in Exile), bassist Alex Lofoco (Hartke amplification, EMG pickups, Evidence Audio, and Rotosound endorsee) and established drummer Haydn Callow (Air UK, Honeytunnel, Damien McCabe, Barron Knights & The Choice). The band have been playing together since August 2010 and bring an exciting, fun and polished performance to every gig. After rocking many famous London and home county venues the band were excited to be invited to headline the Rockfield Country Music festival in Monmoth, Wales in June 2011. In July 2011 Charlie became an endorsee for British string manufacturer Rotosound. She has also been featured in Up Country magazine and Maverick magazine as well as local press. With an ever growing fan base Charlie Savigar is a name for the future and as for the music; memorable melodies, catchy hooks, entertaining lyrics and foot-tapping rhythms will leave you wanting to hear more! REVIEWS"Our
young musicians seem to be in an endless quest for fame in anything
except the Country genre but at last we have a new talent that appears
to be bucking the trend. Charlie Savigar who hails from
Purley in
Surrey is a young, talented musician with the looks and approach we
expect from Nashville's best and the good news is that she is dedicated
to performing her style of Country music."
Alan Perkins, Up Country magazine (Charlie was featured in May 2011's Up Country magazine "...so here we have a distinctive young female singer-songwriter with originality and attitude..." Maverick Country Magazine "I love the
music... It's certainly very professional and to be frank, it is what
country music needs - a good kick to bring things screaming into 2010!"
Stuart Cameron, Hot Disc "Solo chick troubadour in the Chrissie Hynde mould, with beefy backing band. Nice radio friendly pop songs with lovely harmonies ...she can rock a bit in a soft shuffle boogie/rnb style, that sometimes puts you in mind of prime T Rex. Country pop is never far from the mix, so Shania Twain 'n' all that, Dixe Chicks too. A great new talent." BugBear Promotions "If
there's anything that Charlie Savigar (and band) can't cure, I want it
shot."
Andy McKinna (via Twitter) "Very skillfully written and arranged country rock, performed with the perfect balance of groove and tasteful embellishment. There’s a distinctly early 70s feel to this, with hints of T-Rex, the Stones, Status Quo and others, but a decidedly individual voice making it all cohere. A great contribution to the tradition of singer-songwriters fronting kick-ass bands: Charlie Savigar has some serious skills." LiveUnsigned.com "...a tight set of dusty, contemporary rock." Croydon Advertiser "She now plays better than I do! ...I get really excited when she comes round now because I can't wait to hear what she's come up with next." Francis Rossi, Status Quo (from his autobiography XS All Areas pp15-16) Reviews of Charlie's single Long Way Home "Certainly
uplifting singing
from Charlie, just proves how the home grown country music scene is
growing and getting stronger all the time, with an abundance of hot new
country artists such as Charlie. A new singer to keep our eyes and ears
open to, with her own self penned hit material as well."
Tom Robinson, Kingston Radio, UK "Thanks to Hotdisc another new talent gets promoted. I liked it. Intrigued to hear what comes next from Charlie." Tom Lambert, Variety Radio, Ireland "She has a terrific voice. Very interesting song and great debut." Gordon Davies, Radio Maldwyn, UK ![]() ![]() |
